The CDS Exam, which is held twice a year, offers candidates an opportunity to join prestigious institutions such as the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), and Officers Training Academy (OTA). The CDS Exam, also known as the Combined Defence Services Examination, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit Commissioned Officers for the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. This national-level defense entrance examination takes place twice a year, typically in February and September. Numerous candidates participate in the exam each year, and the selection process involves a written examination followed by an SSB Interview to assess intelligence and personality. Based on merit and preferences, successful candidates are assigned to one of the following academies:
– Indian Military Academy in Dehradun
– Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala
– Air Force Academy in Hyderabad

CDS 1 Application Form 2024
The CDS 1 exam is conducted for courses commencing at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Air Force Academy, Hyderabad, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala in January, as well as for Officers Training Academy, Chennai courses starting in April. On the other hand, the CDS 1exam is conducted for courses commencing at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Air Force Academy, Hyderabad, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala in July, and for Officers Training Academy, Chennai courses starting in October 2024.
The CDS Exam Pattern
The CDS Exam Pattern consists of a written examination and an SSB Interview. The written exam for the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy includes three sections: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics. The Officer Training Academy’s test comprises two sections: English and General Knowledge. Each section has a duration of two hours. The total marks for the written exam are 300 for the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy, while it is 200 for the Officer Training Academy. The SSB Interview for the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy carries 300 marks each, while it is 200 marks for the Officer Training Academy. The SSB Interview involves two stages: Stage I and Stage II. Stage I includes Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) tests, Picture Perception Description Test (PP&DT), and Interviews. Stage II consists of Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests, and Conferences.

The CDS selection process includes the release of the notification and application form, issuing admit cards for the written exam, appearing in the written exam, declaration of the written exam results, appearing in the SSB interview, and the final result declaration. CDS Application Form 2024
The CDS Application Form 2024 for CDS 2 was made available online on May 17, 2024, and remained open until , 2024. Candidates were required to register on the OTR (One-Time Registration) platform before filling out the CDS application form for the CDS 2 exam. There was no provision for application form withdrawal for the CDS 2 exam.
CDS Eligibility:
To be eligible for the CDS exam, candidates must fulfill the following CDS Eligibility Criteria:
CDS Nationality:
– Candidates who have settled permanently in India are eligible to apply for the CDS exam.
CDS 1 Age Limit 2024:
– For the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Indian Naval Academy (IMA), unmarried male candidates born between January 2, 2000, and January 1, 2005, are eligible to apply.
– Candidates applying for the Air Force Academy should be between 20 and 24 years as of January 1, 2024. They must have been born between January 2, 2000, and January 1, 2004.
– For the Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Course for men), unmarried male candidates born between January 2, 1999, and January 1, 2005, are eligible to apply.
– For the Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course), candidates should be unmarried and born between January 2, 1999, and January 1, 2005.
CDS 2 Age Limit 2024:
– Candidates applying for the Indian Military Academy (IMA) should be unmarried and must have been born between July 2, 2000, and July 1, 2005.
– Unmarried male candidates born between July 2, 2000, and July 1, 2005, can apply for the Indian Naval Academy (INA).
– To apply for the Air Force Academy (AFA), candidates’ age should be between 20 and 24 years as of July 1, 2024. They must have been born between July 2, 2000, and July 1, 2005. The upper age limit for candidates holding a valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years (born between July 2, 1998, and July 1, 2004).
– For the Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Course for men), candidates must be unmarried and must have been born between July 2, 1999, and July 1, 2005.
– Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried, and issueless divorcees who have not remarried are eligible to apply for the Officers’ Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course). They must have been
born between July 2, 1999, and July 1, 2005.
CDS Qualification:
– For the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Officers’ Training Academy, candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
– For the Indian Naval Academy (INA), candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognized university.
– For the Air Force Academy (AFA), candidates must have a degree in Engineering from a recognized university and must have studied Physics and Mathematics in Class 12.
Note: Candidates in their final year/semester of graduation can also apply, provided they do not have any backlogs up to the last year/semester for which results have been declared at the time of submitting the application form. They are required to provide proof of passing graduation at the commencement of the course.
