• AFCAT Exam Pattern

The AFCAT exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that assess candidates’ knowledge in various areas. The exam is divided into four main sections:

1. General Awareness
2. Verbal Ability in English
3. Numerical Ability
4. Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test

Exam Details:

• Mode of Exam: Online (Computer-based)
• Duration: 2 hours
• Total Marks: 300
• Number of Questions: 100 questions
• Marking Scheme: Each correct answer awards 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer (negative marking).

• Numerical Ability:

  • Arithmetic (Percentages, Ratio and Proportions, Time and Distance, Speed, Profit and Loss, Simple Interest)
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Basic mathematics up to class 10 level

• Reasoning and Military Aptitude:

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

1. Nationality:

   • Must be a citizen of India.

1. Age Limit:

   • Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years (as of 1st January of the year of the examination)
   • Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches: 20 to 26 years
   • Candidates with a valid and current Commercial Pilot License (CPL): 26 years

• Marital Status:

  • Unmarried candidates are preferred for the Flying Branch.
  • For Ground Duty (Technical/Non-Technical) Branches, candidates can be married or unmarried.

• Physical Standards:

  • Candidates must meet the physical and medical standards set by the Indian Air Force.

AFCAT Educational Qualification

• Flying Branch:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with a graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
    • Alternatively, a graduation degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) with 60% marks.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Candidates must have a valid pilot license issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) (for CPL holders).

• Ground Duty (Technical) Branch:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • A degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) in the relevant branch with a minimum of 60% marks.
    • Relevant engineering disciplines include Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical, Electronics, etc.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Candidates must meet the required technical standards for the position.

• Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • A graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks.
    • For Administration and Logistics, candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks.
    • For Education, candidates must have a post-graduate degree in relevant subjects with a minimum of 50% marks.

Final Selection

After clearing the written AFCAT exam, candidates must undergo the following stages:

1. AFSB Interview: A personality and intelligence test conducted by the Air Force Selection Board.
2. Medical Examination: Candidates must meet the medical standards specified by the Indian Air Force.
3. Document Verification: Verification of educational qualifications, age, and other relevant documents.
