AFCAT Exam Info
The AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) is an entrance exam conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the recruitment of officers in various branches of the Air Force, including Flying, Ground Duty (Technical), and Ground Duty (Non-Technical).
The exam is held twice a year and is open to both male and female candidates who meet the eligibility criteria. The AFCAT is designed for graduates and postgraduates, and it serves as a gateway to a career in the Indian Air Force as an officer.
- AFCAT Exam Pattern
The AFCAT exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that assess candidates’ knowledge in various areas. The exam is divided into four main sections:
- General Awareness
- Verbal Ability in English
- Numerical Ability
- Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test
Exam Details:
- Mode of Exam: Online (Computer-based)
- Duration: 2 hours
- Total Marks: 300
- Number of Questions: 100 questions
- Marking Scheme: Each correct answer awards 3 marks, and 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer (negative marking).

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria
Nationality:
- Must be a citizen of India.
Age Limit:
- Flying Branch: 20 to 24 years (as of 1st January of the year of the examination)
- Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) Branches: 20 to 26 years
- Candidates with a valid and current Commercial Pilot License (CPL): 26 years
Marital Status:
- Unmarried candidates are preferred for the Flying Branch.
- For Ground Duty (Technical/Non-Technical) Branches, candidates can be married or unmarried.
Physical Standards:
- Candidates must meet the physical and medical standards set by the Indian Air Force.
AFCAT Educational Qualification
Flying Branch:
- Educational Qualification:
- 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with a graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.
- Alternatively, a graduation degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) with 60% marks.
- Other Requirements:
- Candidates must have a valid pilot license issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) (for CPL holders).
- Educational Qualification:
Ground Duty (Technical) Branch:
- Educational Qualification:
- A degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) in the relevant branch with a minimum of 60% marks.
- Relevant engineering disciplines include Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical, Electronics, etc.
- Other Requirements:
- Candidates must meet the required technical standards for the position.
- Educational Qualification:
Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch:
- Educational Qualification:
- A graduate degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks.
- For Administration and Logistics, candidates must have a graduation degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks.
- For Education, candidates must have a post-graduate degree in relevant subjects with a minimum of 50% marks.

Final Selection
After clearing the written AFCAT exam, candidates must undergo the following stages:
- AFSB Interview: A personality and intelligence test conducted by the Air Force Selection Board.
- Medical Examination: Candidates must meet the medical standards specified by the Indian Air Force.
- Document Verification: Verification of educational qualifications, age, and other relevant documents.
